YHR-668 (D/N)

The model number has remained the same, but the sound and response are completely new. The new 668 offers you all the best qualities of the great instruments of the past—plus incredibly accurate intonation and an improved playability. The sound is rich, warm, full of life and projects well in even the largest concert halls. A new leadpipe design dramatically improves resonance in the mid to low register while adding body to the sound. The new bell taper and thickness have been redesigned for quicker response with enhanced tonal projection in every range. And an ideal amount of air resistance gives subtle control in pianissimo passages, while allowing a powerful commanding tone at fortissimo. This is the horn you’ve been waiting for: the YHR-668.

Hand-lapped rotary valves and slides
Rotary valves and slides that have been hand-lapped are airtight and have smooth action.

Articulated key levers
Articulated key levers have responsive motion.

Cyclical bore
A cyclical bore is a perfectly cylindrical tubing assembly in combination with a conical leadpipe and bell system. This allows for consistent air flow throughout the horn.

Tapered valves
Tapered valves wear for a long time without air leakage.

Strong sound

Deep, warm tone colors

Secure note centers

Impeccable intonation

Excellent sound in all registers
The combination of the secure high register, strong projection, and quick attack of the Bb horn with the rich, warm timbre of the F horn make the double horn ideal for most playing situations.

Available features
The YHR-668 horn is available in nickel silver (YHR-668N; both models are available with a detachable bell (YHR-668D and YHR-668ND).

  • Key: F/Bb
  • Kruspe style wrap: A horn with a Kruspe style wrap has the 4th valve on the near end of the other valve. The Kruspe wrap is the basis of modern large bell horns.
  • Bore: .472"
  • Bell: 12-1/8" yellow brass bell produces a slightly bright and intense sound.
  • Bell throat: Large
  • Valves: Four solid rotary valves
  • Water key: The water key on a horn expedites water drainage.
  • Clear epoxy lacquer: Microscopic, electrically-charged particles of lacquer are attracted to and deposited evenly on the surface of the instrument carrying the opposite charge. This produces an exceptionally thin, uniform coating that can be oven-hardened for maximum durability without compromising the instrument's sound. Clear epoxy lacquer provides easy maintenance and scratch and corrosion resistance.
  • Gold brass leadpipe: Gold brass is extremely resistant to wear and corrosion, and when used in a leadpipe, it ensures long-term precision.
