Looking back over 40 years manufacturing Western Style Drums in Japan
Yamaha Drums have garnered high acclaim from the world’s top drummers ever since our first drums were created in 1967. Unsurpassed in sound and quality, they continue to receive praise and respect throughout the drum industry to this day.
The Yamaha 40th anniversary Snare Drum shell is made of brass, which was chosen for its clear, well-balanced tone. The Phoenix logo engraved on the shell is a century old design that adorned early Yamaha organs. It is applied to the black finish using the same custom hand engraving technique that our craftsmen have nurtured for more than 100 years of instrument making.
Nippon Gakki, the predecessor to the Yamaha Corporation, was founded in 1897 and in the following year, the Phoenix logo was registered as the company’s official trademark.
While the triple tuning fork design that adorns modern Yamaha Instruments is well know throughout the world, it is this Phoenix motif that adorned the music rests of our earliest, highest quality organs. The design embodies the spirit of our founder, whose goal was to produce instruments of world-class quality.
