The Beech Custom Absolute has different ply configurations from the Maple and Birch Custom Absolutes and also its very own selection of fabulous finishes. The 8” and 10” tom toms are 6ply and 6mm thick, while the other tom toms and floor toms - from 12” through to 18” - are 6-ply and 7.5mm thick. The bass drums are 8-ply and 10mm thick. Each bass drum has five air holes which allow the displaced air column to escape more easily as you play. This is particularly important today now that front heads are often left intact.

The 100% beech wood plies are laminated using our exclusive Air Seal System which ensures that every drum shell is perfectly round and of uniform thickness. The shells are finished on the outside with extremely tough polyurethane in a range of five glorious colours. Our nine-step, seven day finishing process provides a rich deep lustre, the culmination of over a century of acoustic instrument manufacturing. As well as these polyurethane colours there are two other special finishes. The first is the extraordinary Vintage Natural. This is a special synthetic resin, applied by hand to produce a golden honey sheen which will mature with age. While enhancing the tone of the beech, the vintage finish virtually eliminates the influence of weather and humidity. Finally, unique to the Beech Custom, there is the timeless White Marine Pearl wrap. With this finish the bass drum also features matching inlaid hoops.

All drums are fitted with Yamaha's Enhanced Sustain System (YESS) which provides minimum mount to shell contact to increase the drum's resonance and sustain. The 2.3mm chromed steel Dyna-Hoop rims provide pinpoint, stable tuning with cracking rim-shots. And the look is completed by the sleek, classically proportioned Custom Absolute chrome lug casings.
