The celebration of forty years of making some of the world’s finest musical instruments was our inspiration for this drum set.

These drums are meticulously hand crafted using the finest materials available, and hand buffed to a lustrous shine.

100% Hokkaido birch shells:
Yamaha’s birch comes from northern Japan, giving it a deep, rich fundamental. These drums have a low-end punch and what could be described as a “naturally EQ’d” sound, ideal for recording

Original RC specs:
We pay tribute to our heritage by making the bass drum, toms, and snare drums to Recording Custom specifications. The bass drum is 7-ply for extra bottom end punch. The toms are 6–ply for the perfect balance of attack, sustain, and tonal spectrum

Finish:
The Temple Silver finish honors one of the most famous temples in Japan. The Silver Sparkle lacquer is hand sprayed over a dark background, and hand buffed to a flawless shine.

Sixty degree bearing edges:
We cut the bearing edges at sixty degrees with a round profile giving the head more surface contact with the shell. This further enhances the low fundamental of the Hokkaido birch shells. These drums have a deep, warm tone and punchy attack.

High-tension lugs:
The 40th Anniversary drums are fitted with Yamaha’s classic high-tension lugs made famous by the Recording Custom series. This final detail in the design of this drum set is the crowning touch to our celebration of forty years making drums for those players that are serious about their music.
