Elvin Jones is said to be "the world's greatest rhythmic drummer" ever. His unigue free-flowing style was a major influence on many leading jazz and rock drummers.
His legendary collaborations with jazz-giants like Bud Powell, Miles Davis, Larry Young & Charlie Parker makes him famous all over the world. In 1960, he joined the classic John Coltrane Quartet, After five years on the road and the release of some of the greatest jazz recordings ever, he left Coltrane to play with Duke Ellington and form his own band Jazz Machine. Jones died on May 18, 2004, at the age of 76.
