Peter Weniger, born 1964 in Hamburg (Germany), is one of the most spectacular Saxophone-Players in the international Jazz-Scene. His studies commenced in Hamburg at the Music University where he examined in 1984. The studies were then continued in Cologne and finished with “summa cum laude” in 1992.
Peter has been honoured with various prizes. In 1988 he won the Tonger Music Contest for Saxophone in Cologne, followed by the “Best Sax Artist”in 1989 during the Karlovy-Vary Jazz Festival in former Tchecoslowakia. Several other prizes followed then, just to mention the SWF (German TV-Broadcasting Station) Jazz Prize in 1996. His CD, “Tip Tap” won the German Records Critics; also in 1996.
Until today, Peter has released 9 CD’s. Participants were Hubert Nuss, Conrad Herwig, John Aebercrombie, Rufus Reid, Adam Nussbaum, David Liebman, Carl Allen, Dennis Erwin, John Schröder, Jeff Hamilton, Christian Ramond, Lynn Seaton, Rob Pronk and the Metropol-Orchester. In addition to this he made several recordings together with Jasper van´t Hofs „Pili Pili, Billy Cobham, Eddie Palmieri, Lionel Richie, Django Bates, Mike Stern, Leni Stern, Peter Herbolzheimers RC&B, the Paul Kuhn Orchestra Paul Kuhn and the Orchestras and Big Bands of the biggest German Television Networks. Since Winter 1999/2000, Peter is appointed as professor at the University of Arts in Berlin.
